Frequently Asked Questions

You can find concise answers below. If you need more help, reach out via the contact page.

What is Cyano Community?

Cyano Community is a citizen science initiative focused on monitoring cyanobacterial blooms in Switzerland. We provide tools for reporting, viewing and understanding observations, and we offer training for field volunteers.

How do I report an observation?

Open the report form, describe what you see, add a location and any photos. Our team reviews all submissions and flags the most urgent blooms.

Can I contribute without an account?

Browsing news or the public map is free; reporting or managing observations may require login depending on the feature you need.

How are reports verified?

Reports are reviewed by the Cyano Community team and partner labs. We compare field data against lab analyses before sharing summaries on the map.

Are all cyanobacteria harmful?

Not all cyanobacteria produce toxins, but some species do under certain conditions. We monitor species, volume and timing to estimate risks to people and ecosystems.

Where can I find the results?

Follow the map and the news sections for the latest insights.
